There are few places in the world where Alpine technology can find such fertile soil as in South Tyrol.
The creativity and innovative spirit that permitted earlier generations to survive and prosper in the area’s Alpine valleys has not disappeared today. On the contrary, South Tyrol’s “Alpine DNA” has resulted in the emergence of market leaders and innovative niche providers within a very wide range of Alpine technologies:
- Mountains and outdoor sports
- Alpine agricultural technologies
- Alpine building
- Alpine safety and civil defence
- Alpine mobility

A Network of Economy and Research
Alongside the enterprises themselves exists a constantly growing network of scientific institutions that underpin South Tyrol’s worldwide leading role in these areas. The European Academy EURAC with its research facilities – for example its Institute for Mountain Emergency Medicine, a world first – as well as TIS innovation park, the Free University of Bolzano, and the Fraunhofer Italia Institute are, among others, part of this network.
